Taylor of Old Bond Street are a family run British company founded 1854 during the reign of Queen Victoria. Their smartly presented products give off a ‘British Gentleman’ appeal and I feel that while I test these products I should be wearing a tweed suit and smoking a pipe while saying things like ‘Blimey Old Boy!’ and ‘Bollocks!’
The tube is similar to a mousse with a subtle lavender scent. It’s a white paste, light and fluffy to touch which makes it a delight to apply. You can definitely forget about dealing with those awkward pulling hairs with this product. A comb makes for an easy and accurate application. Unfortunately it doesn’t set hard in the ‘stache, instead leaving a slightly greasy finish.
As an Alpha-Tash man myself, I like wear to my Mo in a testosterone filled handle bar curl. As a consequence I had issues with the strength and found it struggled to hold my weight and power. The wax wasn’t strong enough to withstand my active lifestyle of boarding, bench pressing, and writing blogs. Equally it wouldn’t have the power to withstand the elements of wind, fire and rain on board a Harley, moped, or push bike.
I found the tin to be very similar to the tube. Very easy to scoop out of the tin and apply, no warming required which is great when you’re on the go. Again, it did not set hard in my ‘stache leaving me with a droopy looking handlebar that refused to go into its regular curl, no matter how much wax I applied. If your mo’ is shorter or styled out straight then this product would work a lot better. The natural colour meant that no wax was visible, even after a generous application.
Nonetheless these would definitely suit the more natural style of your Parisian gentleman. They are both light, excellent on the skin and are great for adding style to a lighter and less styled moustache that will be kept out of the elements. The light finish and gentle hold is ideal if you have the ‘tashe to suit. This is definitely one for the ball room not the back streets.
